ThreatKrusher Pillar 04 · Physical and digital access

Give each identity only the access approved for its work.

Access decisions are harder to manage when facilities, accounts, roles, privileges, external users, connected services, and approvals are handled separately. Tie each request to a named owner, business purpose, approval, duration, review, and process for changing or removing access.

Access supports agreed identity, authorization, review, and lifecycle work. It does not guarantee that every identity is legitimate, every entitlement is appropriate, or misuse cannot occur.

Access decisions need an owner

Who needs physical or digital access, to what, for what purpose, and for how long?

An account is only part of the answer. The responsible team also needs a clear business need, an approver, appropriate privilege, a review date, and a way to change or remove access when circumstances change.

What Access organizes when contracted

Physical and digital identity

Connect a person, visitor, contractor, administrator, service, application, or workload identity to an owner, sponsor, status, purpose, approved locations or systems, and review date.

Authentication, authorization, and entry

Help define how an identity is verified and what locations, actions, resources, data, and environments it may use within an approved scope.

Privilege and exceptions

Separate elevated authority from routine work. Record the business reason, owner, approval, duration, exception, and next review for access that requires special handling.

Lifecycle and revocation

Connect join, change, departure, contractor, vendor, emergency, and service changes to the work needed to add, adjust, suspend, recover, or remove access.

Review and evidence

Maintain context for access decisions, review outcomes, remediations, exceptions, and closure. A list of entitlements without an owner or purpose is not enough for an accountable decision.

People, process, and system

People

The client retains business-need, facility-owner, resource-owner, data-owner, employment, policy, and risk authority. Within agreed scope, eTrepid supports defined technical administration, workflow, review, evidence, and escalation responsibilities.

Process

Request, verify, authorize, provision, admit, review, change, suspend, recover, revoke, validate, and document access through defined workflows. The appropriate path depends on the identity, location or resource, sensitivity, and consequence.

System

Use approved systems of record to connect identity sources, requests, approvals, roles, privileges, service work, monitoring, review records, and evidence. The system supports the decision. It does not create the business need or assume the client’s authority.

Essential ecosystem dependencies

Comply:

Connects access obligations, policies, exceptions, evidence, and review requirements to accountable owners.

ITSM:

Turns approved access requests, changes, incidents, remediation, and recurring reviews into assigned service work.

Trust:

Helps the responsible team evaluate security conditions and review the records that support identity and access decisions.

Command:

Applies identity, authority, access, and review boundaries to governed AI use cases when applicable.

Evidence boundary

Make access decisions reviewable without exposing access details.

Public pages should not contain credentials, recovery codes, access lists, privileged-account names, service secrets, authentication records, sensitive logs, client data, or confidential architecture. Any evidence example requires permission, appropriate redaction, defined scope and period, a reviewer, and a stated limitation.

Your next step

Start with the identity source, critical resource, approval owner, or lifecycle gap.

In a working session, we can help clarify the immediate access decision, the accountable owner, the dependencies that need review, and the next operating action. If scheduling is not the right next step, you can send a request, call, or start a chat instead.
